About the Exhibition
Showcasing over 5 artworks in a wide range of media by contemporary artists of African descent, Young, Gifted, and Black: The Lumpkin-Boccuzzi Family Collection of Contemporary Art explores the richness and complexity of Black art and life today. The title refers to the 1970 song by Nina Simone, a powerful anthem of pride, possibility, and self-determination during the Black Power era. More than fifty years later, that call to action continues to resonate. In this exhibition, younger-generation voices, in dialogue with established predecessors, explore questions of identity, power, and history, while also pushing the boundaries of artistic practice.
